Guests Accompanying Surgical Patients
The surgical waiting area is available to family and friends of surgical patients. All visitors, patients, and their friends and family, should check in with the receptionist. Please make special arrangements for young children as long wait times can be difficult for them.
If you need to leave the waiting area, please notify the receptionist so you can be located if you are needed.
Surgical patients 17 years old or younger should have one parent or guardian in the waiting area at all times during surgery and while recovering from anesthesia.
As soon as surgery is complete, the surgeon will meet with families to discuss the procedure and answer questions. Please be available following surgery so that you do not miss your opportunity to meet with the surgeon.
Following surgery, patients are monitored for approximately one to two hours. You will be able to visit your loved one after he or she has recovered from anesthesia.
Surgery Patients
Same-Day Discharge Patients: You will recover in the Post-Anesthetic Care Unit and then be transferred to the surgery recovery area where a nurse will review discharge instructions. If you are able to have visitors during this time, a nurse will escort them to join you.
Inpatients: If you will be staying at least one night in the hospital, your family is encouraged to wait in your room or the waiting area on the appropriate floor (after speaking with the doctor following your surgery).
