Patient Belongings and Valuables

Patients and visitors are responsible for their belongings. Ridgeview is not responsible for replacing lost or misplaced items. Patient belongings include things such as glasses/contacts, dentures, hearing aids, clothing/jewelry, medications and other personal, valuable items. We recommend you bring only essential items to the hospital and offer the following tips to help keep your personal items secure:

Personal Items

Before your surgery procedure, your essential personal items will be placed in a private storage area. Clothing will be taken up to an inpatient room or for Same Day Surgery (SDS) procedures, hung in a private closet. Glasses, hearing aids and dentures needed for communication immediately after your procedure are placed in a storage location and given to you immediately in the recovery room. If not needed for communication immediately after your procedure, they will be given to your family member or friend, if present, and returned to you afterwards.

Contacts/glasses, dentures and hearing aids should be kept in their protective case when not in use. Please avoid placing small items such as contacts/glasses, dentures and hearing aids on a meal tray, under a pillow, on the bed, or other concealed places where they may be lost or accidentally thrown out.

Valuables

Please leave all valuables and other items that you deem to be of value at home or send them home with a family member or friend upon admission to the hospital. They should not be kept at the bedside. If family members are not present, valuable items should be given to the nursing staff to be secured in a valuables envelope and locked in the safe. A receipt is provided to claim your items at discharge.

Mobility Assistance Equipment

If you plan to bring mobility assistance equipment to the hospital from your home, please label it with your name.

Medications

You may be asked to bring in your medications from home or provide a medication list with your schedule and dosages. This includes herbal and over-the-counter medications as well as your prescription medications. If you are asked to bring your medications, they must be in the original, labeled bottles or packaging. Once your care team has documented your medications, they should be sent home with family, if possible. For your safety, medications will be provided and distributed by the hospital during your stay. Please consult with your care team if you have any questions.

Lost or Broken Items

Unless placed in our possession for safekeeping as described above, Ridgeview does not replace lost or broken items. If you believe you may have misplaced an item while at Ridgeview, please contact the Lost and Found at the appropriate location and we will be happy to check for your item.
